Energizing and Uniting your Community: The 24 HOUR RELAY CHALLENGE Topic area: Community building Type: Workshop Far too many community initiatives bring representatives to the same table only to struggle and sometimes succumb to 'analysis paralysis.' There is too much talk and not enough action, too much division and not enough union. One key to building successful partnerships is implementing activities that can be accomplished quickly (within six months), showcase youth, engage the whole community, and have measurable outcomes. Proven in over 100 communities, the 24 HOUR RELAY CHALLENGE does just that. It trains a diverse group of youth and adults in a community-wide planning process that produces a "Big Bang" event: a 24 hour camp out where hundreds of youth and adults live together without violence, tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, celebrating the assets of their community. The activity strengthens youth-adult relationships and raises thousands of dollars to invest in prevention programs and activities, providing resources for continued action! In this workshop, participants will learn how the 24 HOUR RELAY CHALLENGE can prepare their coalitions for success and how they can gain the necessary support for implementing it in their communities. -------- [Return to Custom Presentations]
