Follow-up Training and Support

Community Matters provides a variety of training and support to help schools strengthen and sustain their Safe School Ambassadors programs in the years after they have been launched at a school site.

Expansion Training: Two-day training for NEW Ambassadors and adults to expand an existing SSA program at the school site. This training is for new students only: up to 40 middle/high students or 30 elementary students and new or returning adults, with a 1:6 ratio of adults to youth. Up to six previously-trained “star” Ambassadors may participate in leadership/facilitation roles. Expansion Training includes Ambassador guides, as well as tools, resources, and coaching for adult program leaders.

Refresher Training: One-day training for PREVIOUSLY-TRAINED Ambassadors and adults (with 4+ months’ experience). Intended to kick off or re-invigorate an existing SSA program, provide skills review, and assist with annual program planning. This training is for experienced, previously-trained students and adults only: up to 60 students, with a 1:6 ratio of adults to youth. Refresher Training includes student materials, as well as tools, resources, and coaching for adult program leaders.

Expansion Combo Training:  This two-day experience adds new Ambassadors (and adults) to the program and, on the second half of day two, brings in the previously-trained, experienced Ambassadors and adults for a combined training experience. This training is for up to 40 NEW middle/high or 30 NEW elementary Ambassadors (for two full days); when EXPERIENCED Ambassadors join (second half of day two only) the student maximum is 70, with 1:6 ratio of adults to youth. Expansion-Combo Training includes student materials, as well as tools, resources, and coaching for adult program leaders.

Training-of-Trainers (TOT): This three-day training is designed for districts and/or schools that have already launched SSA programs via Initial Trainings conducted by Community Matters, and have two years of experience implementing the SSA program. The TOT equips teams of adults (from the district and/or school site levels) to conduct Refresher, Expansion, and Expansion-Combo trainings at sites that have already launched the SSA program AND purchased Site Licenses from Community Matters. These “local” trainers are then able to keep the SSA program going and growing at these sites.

Training includes the full Safe School Ambassadors program Training Manual, as well as a Training Kit of flipcharts, video clips, props and other materials necessary to conduct these SSA trainings. A year of access to online video clips of the training is also included.

Training costs and fees go down as the number of sites increases.  Please call to discuss your situation and obtain a quote on the services that will serve you best.
