Dawn Monnet, MA
Training Team
Dawn Monnet is a seasoned teacher and trainer, with international
experience in education and corporate settings. Since 1987 she has
taught courses in Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication,
Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, Group
Discussion, and coached the speech and debate team. While coaching
the SRJC Speech and Debate Team in 1988-1991, the team was in the
top five at the state level and in the top ten at the national level
of competition.
In 1992 and 1993 she lived in Kobe, Japan, where she Intermediate
and Advanced English to Japanese students at the Simul Academy.
She also taught Basic English, Business English, Skills Clinics,
special topics like American Culture Through TV, and Peace Studies.
Her methods combined textbook work with language lab, current articles
from newspapers and magazines, videotapes, recordings and other
engaging in-class activities.
Dawns corporate training began in 1992. Since that
time, she has facilitated a variety of cross-cultural training programs
for executives, managers and engineers, preparing them for international
assignments. She has worked with employees coming from or going
to Mexico, Canada, England, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Italy,
Ukraine, Romania, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Korea, China, India,
Saudi Arabia, and Japan. She has worked with many well-known companies
including Lucent, Baxter, Guidant, Dow, Motorola, Air Touch Cellular,
Thiokol Corporation, Ericsson, and Alcatel. As a Certified IBM Diversity
Trainer, she co-facilitated diversity seminars for IBM employees
at various sites around the country, and has also offered diversity
programs for Com 21, OCLI, and Cross Check.
Dawn received her MA and BA degrees in Speech Communication
from California State University, Long Beach. She also received
a degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Sonoma State
University.
Dawn has a teenage son, and has been actively involved in his
education. She volunteers in the classroom and also serves as
President of the Mariposa Parent Foundation, a non-profit organization
that works to support the enrichment programs offered at a magnet
school in Sebastopol, California. She has also been a counselor
or coordinator for the Family Camp at Spirit Rock, a Buddhist retreat
center in Marin County, California, and is a member of the Spirit
Rock Family Council.
