Sally Ember
Outreach Coordinator
Sally has been working as an educator, youth development
leader, workshop and conference facilitator, writer/editor, playwright
and director, and program developer for over thirty years. She is
the co-author and/or editor of several books, including ACTING
OUT: The Workbook, and created many grant-funded programs for
youth and families in the areas of prevention education and conflict
resolution education, some of which were chosen as "best practices"
by state and federal evaluators.
Trained by the Movement for a New Society and the Quaker
Nonviolence Movement in the mid-1970's, Sally continued this work
as one of the lead facilitators for Creative Response to Conflict/New
Mexico, leading trainings for youth and youth workers/educators
in Arizona and New Mexico before coming to Community Matters as
the Outreach Coordinator for Safe School Ambassadors.
She taught in private, public and alternative schools, grades
pre-K 12th, as well as in adult education in literacy and for college
courses, undergraduate through graduate school. Sally earned her
Master's and doctorate in multicultural and teacher education from
the University of Massachusetts/Amherst in the 1990's, and brings
this wealth of experience and training to her conversations with
educators and counselors about improving school climate.
